I was
completely frustrated with myself. I was 41 and had always been
athletic, active, but got stuck in some bad habits of not exercising
or eating properly. What the heck happened? I used reasons like;
busy with work and starting up a new business; family that included
three kids under the age of 7; no time to get to the gym; no time to
get to the hills for a ride, blah, blah, blah. All excuses NOT to
workout!
I’m flipping through the channels late one night and come across the
P90X infomercial, these guys and gals are doing stuff I use to be
able to do, pull ups, push ups plus a whole lot more, they’re
working out hard and not using some crazy gadget designed to only
lighten your wallet. “I can do that!” The next day, I to the
website, did a little research and DECIDED that I was going to get
absolutely RIPPED in 90 days!
Even though I had decided to make a change I still procrastinated,
P90X sat in the corner my office for almost a month, opened but not
touched. Once started I was 100% committed, no nutritional cheating,
no missing workouts, and it paid off in more ways then I ever
imagined. I went from 195 lbs, 21% body fat to 168 lbs, 7% body fat
in 90 DAYS. I have continued with the program and been able to
maintain 8% body fat and added more lean muscle mass to my current
weight of 178 lbs. This has been a lifestyle change for us, it
wasn’t a short term weight loss program, it’s part of who we are and
how we live our lives.
My three brothers and sister-in-laws, a sister and her husband,
cousins, friends and it seemed like half the neighborhood was doing
P90X! Even my 64 year old mother was doing P90 and some P90X
workouts! I’ve had friends tell me they no longer needed their
cholesterol medication because of the program, I’ve had people thank
me for introducing them to the program cause it’s changed their
lives and brought them closer to their spouse. My wife did her own
90 day rotation and went from a size 10 to a size 4! And then to top
it all off, Beachbody took my video and put me in the new P90X
infomercial, talk about coming full circle!
I had a few minor issues with a bad knee having had three surgeries
but it didn’t deter me from my goal of getting RIPPED, and thanks to
very supportive wife who committed to the program as well it really
made it easy. I also relied on the Beachbody Message Boards for
plenty of support and answers to countless questions. Because if
that I had no issues with achieving success. It’s Simple, Just Not
Easy! I had the typical challenges of managing proper nutrition and
fitting the workouts into a busy schedule that included family
vacations away from my home gym but that’s all part of the healthy
lifestyle journey I had committed to. I’m just your normal dude who
decided not to be a typical 43 year old bald fat guy, and instead
I’m now the atypical 43 year old bald RIPPED guy!
Some of my friends have asked me why? Why did I go to this extreme,
I wasn’t “fat”, I was just stopping the direction I was headed. I
didn’t want to be 30-40 lbs overweight and be told by my doctor that
I had to lose weight because of health issues. I also needed to set
an example for my kids that health and fitness is important, how do
you teach that if you’re overweight and out of shape? It’s a sad
state of our society that it’s “normal” to be 20-30 lbs overweight,
sorry but that’s not NORMAL!
I started with P90X and have since done P90X+, some TurboJam, P90,
10 Minute Trainer, and now ChaLEAN Extreme and One on One with Tony
Horton. My fitness level has gone to a level I haven’t seen since I
was in my teens. I wish I could say I’m able to leap tall buildings
with a single bound but what I’ve gained most from my fitness is
that I’ve got lots of energy all through the day, if you’ve got
young children you know how important it is to have lots of energy
to stay ahead of them!
